Temptation Of One Dark Body

100.00

This work quotes Langston Hughes and Roy DeCarava's The Sweet Flypaper of Life in which DeCarava photographs a family in Harlem and Hughes provides narration for the images. Temptation of One Dark Body seeks to de-sexualize the black male body, while providing an alternative social context for the viewer to imagine the black male inhabiting. The manuscript superimposed on the contour of the figure is meant to add another layer of context to the work. The manuscript elevates the black male to a level of holiness to challenge the viewer’s socialized image of the black male.
